Kristina Johnell is an Associate Professor and a licensed pharmacist in the geriatric epidemiology group at ARC. Moreover, she is a pharmacoepidemiologist specialized in drug use in the elderly population.
She is currently main supervisor of two and co-supervisor of two PhD students. She teaches in geriatric pharmacology both at the university level and to various non-academic organizations, such as senior citizens’ associations. As principal investigator, she has received substantial grants from both the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) and the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (FAS) and also from several other funding sources. Her publications include over 20 peer-reviewed original papers (pharmacoepidemiology, geriatrics and social epidemiology), two theses (licentiate thesis and doctoral thesis) and several peer-reviewed conference contributions. She is a regular referee for pharmacological and epidemiological journals.
Her major research field is geriatric pharmacoepidemiology and her specific areas of research include:
- Register-based geriatric pharmacoepidemiology
- Drug use in the elderly living in nursing homes and their own homes
- Inappropriate drug use in older people
- Adverse drug reactions in the elderly
- Adherence to prescription guidelines for the geriatric population
- Inequalities in older people’s drug use
