Jonas Wastesson is a PhD student at Karolinska Institutet and is a member of both the pharmacoepidemiological and social gerontology groups at Aging Research Center. He has an MSc in sociology.

His thesis work concerns pharmaceutical drug use among the oldest old. How does drug use change with older age, can elderly people handle their own drugs, and are they prescribed inappropriate drugs? In addition, Jonas will explore the association between gender, socioeconomic position and drug use.

Besides his thesis work, Jonas is also interested in the demographic change towards aging populations. What are the mechanisms behind population aging and what are the consequences for both the individual and society?
