Helena Westerberg earned a Master's degree in psychology from the University of Stockholm in 2002, and a Ph.D. in medicine from Karolinska Institutet in 2004.

Helena has a special interest in the assessment and treatment of working memory. Since 1999 she has been working in her role as a neuropsychologist at Astrid Lindgrens Childrens Hospital, at the Karolinska Hospital, with the clinical assessment of children and adults who have working memory deficits. She has also conducted various research studies, starting as a student in Neuropediatrics supervised by Prof. Hans Forssberg and Prof. Torkel Klingberg. Since 2004 Helena has worked as a post-doc in Professor Lars Bäckman’s group at the Aging Research Center, where she runs experimental studies on plasticity of working memory in aging and dementia. .
