Giola received her Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Pisa, Italy. She subsequently worked for several years as an engineer before returning to studying. She received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina, USA. Simultaneously, she also received her certificate in Applied Statistics from the same university. The focus of her research was Structural Health Monitoring, i.e. the process of developing and implementing an autonomous neural sensor network that could determine the health of a structure and its remaining life.

At ARC Giola provides statistical support to Professor Laura Fratiglioni and her research group. She also works with the data management group, assisting them with the compilation of the annual report for the SNAC-K project and data cleaning.
