Currently a PhD student at the Aging Research Center (ARC), Karolinska Institutet, Francesca Mangialasche is a medical doctor, specialized in geriatrics. Her PhD study plan is based on a scientific collaboration between the Aging Research Center, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden and the Institute of Gerontology and Geriatrics, University of Perugia, Italy. She is working under the supervision of Professor Miia Kivipelto (MD, PhD, Sweden), Professor Laura Fratiglioni (MD, PhD, Sweden), and Professor Patrizia Mecocci (MD, PhD, Italy).
Her research activity is focused on clinical and neuropsychological aspects of brain aging and dementia, and on biological studies of brain aging with specific interest in Oxidative/Nitrosative Stress and Antioxidants in Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease in elderly people. Specifically, her PhD project explores the role of vitamin E and oxidative stress in cognitive aging from an epidemiological and clinical perspective.
